Have you ever wondered what the inside of a metal detector coil is like?  Here is one of a Garrett's Crossfire  8- 1/2"

series coil I recently repaired. There are two bobins or coils of wire neatly wound around the diameter of the larger and the smaller round discs. The larger being the transmit coil and the smaller the receive one. There are several other types of coil winding configurations, all with their advantages and disadvantages depending on ground being detected.

                                           Repair Service

My extensive knowledge of general electronics enables me to carry out a variety of repairs to many different models of detectors. However, on the very latest models and due to the total lack of support from manufacturers on this matter, it is practically impossible to obtain the required technical data and custom made components used today.

Thus said, modern miniaturised surface-mounted circuit boards are far more reliable than their previous counterparts and, in my experience, more than 80% of all detector malfunctions are due to power supply problems, bad/intermittent board and wiring connections and also lack of maintenance, most of which I can fault find and repair as required.

And below is a concentric type of an older model from the Whites stable.

The coils of wire have been set on a polythene bed and secured with resin.

These older type of coils worked quite well but tended to suffer from threshold tuning drift when operated

under certain environments, like too cold or too hot and were

replaced by a better and more secured set-up.

I can also deal with all problems related to audio,  specially problems with HEADPHONES.

If you have a set needing upgrading, i.e.  problems with curly cord, inner speakers, connecting plug wiring etc., I can help.

I can also upgrade standard headsets without volume controls to single or twin controls and also add a two-way switch to accommodate stereo and mono socket wirings as required.

 And here are some examples:

These are the Koss UR-30 headphones, one of the best metal detector headphones about and the ones Minelab recommend as the best match for their range of detectors. Unfortunately, many of their users shun these phones because they lack a variable volume control/s.
So, it you would like your headphones, new or used, upgraded to either one or two separate variable controls, please get in touch and I would be able to sort this out for you.

This is the popular Garrett Pro-Pointer widely used by many. If you experience any problems with its operation, like loss of sound, erratic operation and the more common failure of the on/off switch, I can provide a full replacement service of one or more of the parts needed at a competitive price with a full guarantee.

I can also offer a free "jewellery" recover service. If you have lost a treasured ring or any other valuable article of sentimental value and know the possible area (within reasonable local distance) where the item might have got lost, I would be happy to come and try to locate it for you.
